Well, after the controversialness that was the last Mono211 release by Taro, here comes something that's guaranteed to soothe damaged nerves. As any fule kno, groove is in the heart, and Meester Vim! has it up to his eyeballs. Well, eyeball sockets - he donated his eyes to medical research some time ago and nowadays composes using his long antennae that he's grown from his gaping eye sockets. He makes strange clicking noises too, and if you listen carefully, the noise that sounds a little like...

Ladies and gentlemen, back for an encore, and WHAT an encore, it's our friend and yours, the incorrigible, indelibleĀ  Jake Kaufman , also known asĀ  Virt , with the second installment of his astounding NES chip disc, now known as 'fx 2.0'. Since the mtk.release of the original 'fx', which was an entire imaginary NES soundtrack in pint-size .S3M format, Jake has been doing demi-deific stuff with Nintendo's sound chips in his primary career as a game musician. His "Atlantis: The Lost...

It's not often that we rave so much about an artist that our eyes come clean out of their sockets and roll around at cheek level 'til we squidge them back in again. But in this case, we reckon the permanent vision degradation is worth it just to alert the world to Virt's presence. So, Virt, aka Jake Kaufman, is a US-based .MOD tracker and video-game composer with many Nintendo Gameboy and Gameboy Advance credits up the wazoo (including "Q-Bert" and "Who Wants To Be A...

We're very pleased to follow up our initial release from UK-based idm-er Aereal with this contemplatively complex, wonderfully circumspect 2-track EP which we're convinced cements his reputation as the best artist you've never heard of. Something we hope we'll change. The EP leads off with "Bacurex", a tour de force of understated, melodically dense electronics in the tradition of the best B12 or Black Dog releases. And "Metro Cammell", the second track, stuns further, with...

Having previously been associated with Substance's excellent net.mod.label Voodoo, Finnish musician Tweeter comes out with his debut for Monotonik, and it's a real treat. "Me And My Friend Lobstah" is a sinewave-smooth electronic trip with boil+bubble drums and widening echo-styled passages leading out to the fill-out, the breakdown, the true wide-screen style. It's strangely reminiscent of an earlier era, the early 90s, but in the best possible way - not retro, just as good as the...

Another stalwart Monotonik releaser over the past few years, Dead Eros returns one last time with the noisy, triumphant 'Bone Mountain', climbing that pile of dead things with little regard to safety, snare fills, or life and limb. Really, when you start with 'Breadbox', you can go on with happiness, given the amount of almost Aphex-ish convulsions the drums bring to the table, and things continue from there with marvel, given the sheer depth of 'Inside Sunshine'. It continues, up and down, and...

We're pleased to finally get around to a release from Bulgaria's Esem, who's been slowly orbiting the whole net.label scene for a long time (he's known in pre-mp3 days as Stereoman/Noise), and recently broke through with an excellent 12", 'Ikae', on DeFocus , and a debut album for the same label, 'Enveloped'. Now, with a forthcoming album for Merck , 'Serial Human', and an appearance on the Machine Drum remix CD on Merck (gotta catch 'em all! oh, we did!), George (Esem) is continuing to...

We gladly return to the gorgeously lush hunting-ground of ex-demo-sceners, with this sublime ambient release from the artist formerly known as Radix/TPOLM and additionally known as Rymdlego, Sinespree, and his pseudonym for this release, Mosaik. Originally from Sweden, but last heard of heading to Holland, his last two Monotonik releases (as Radix and Mosaik respectively) were sinetastic in the purest way. So, having caused at least a minor buzz on the idmlist with his confusing multiple...

A long time coming, the third Monotonik release from Chromatic Flights, aka Florida's Kyle Wyss, debuts after some heavy buzz for his main project, the two-man band Blind Man's Colour, online. In fact, with none other than Kanye West linking his Blind Man's Colour material and the band signed to Kanine Records (Grizzly Bear, Mommy And Daddy), we're delighted to be continuing to put out his solo material for Monotonik fans. Continuing from his first and second free releases on Monotonik,...

We're delighted to welcome back multiple Monotonik releaser Planet Boelex, who's provided us with an awesome 60+ minute live set, featuring all self-composed Boelex material (much of it new!) recorded at the recent Virus Festival in Lithuania. Boelex, whose tracks have also appeared on Kahvi and Ogredung in recent years, has a beautifully layered pure idm sound, and the mix showcases the downtempo, chilled nature of his sound briefly, starting out with 'Forever And Always' and moving on through...

All the way from Alaska, Jiva provides us with some truly serene idm in the style of the similarly remote but moving Boards Of Canada or Biosphere. Beautiful home listening for everyone, and well worth the download. And we know our French is schoolboy at best, but the title is definitely something about strolling across the seabed, isn't it?

Another debut, then, and this time an American practitioner of the dark idm arts, in the form of Ann Arbor, MI-based Dead Eros. Monsieur Eros has run his own Music Is For Assholes label for some time, hangs with the Ghostly International chaps, but produces a distinctly contrasting output to anything they might put out - from light, sinewave-strewn idm to dark, foreboding ambient. Thus, 'When EP' is three pieces of brightness and one chunk of shadow, with lead track 'When We Are Home'...

The first release on Monotonik for Radix, aka Mosaik, the Swedish artist who's been making a lot of waves in the PC 'demo-scene' over the past couple of years with his perfectly crafted melodies and beautifully smooth stylings. "Counting Stars" is the sound of a man who's clearly been listening to Boards Of Canada, but has seen fit to put his own spin on their innocent electronica. What with the beautifully pitch-bent lead and the hypnotic voice drifting in and out of the background,...

You may know Ilkae from previous releases on Monotonik and also on awesome, now dormant Miami-based physical label Merck. Well, four years after 2004's beautiful Stained Glass Confetti, backing up a self-released full-length, Ilkae returns with a similar deal - an awesome EP extracting from a new album. This time, 'Lighter Industry' is a companion piece to the new, limited-edition Ilkae album 'Light Industry', which those interested in the beautifully scattershot, chiptune-ish idm that the...

We've been releasing maze-like, beautifully complex music from quiet, enigmatic UK idm artist Vim! since 1996 - thus, we're heading towards his 10-year anniversary on Monotonik, insanely enough. With that in mind, it's only natural that there might be some maturation of style, coming, as it does, after his real-life album and remix releases on Surgery, Merck, Carpark, and others - the hazy, redolent chiptune sinewave sounds of 'Perpetual Autumn EP' show how we all grow up and chill out somehow,...

It's always good to find an original, slightly more maverick voice in the world of electronics - someone who, if not channelling the punk aesthetic, at least goes out on a little more of a limb to imbue their music with edge, unpredictability and, well, soul. So, when US-based Grandma sent us a whole raft of his music, we immediately cottoned on to the mix of alternately classic idm-ish melodies, super-intricate drill+bass programming, and improvised guitars/vocals. That in itself should be...

We first hooked up with shadowy U.S. artist Beak earlier in 2003, when he made an 'absolutely checken' appearance, providing us with a few choice tracks featuring his unconventional but beautiful twinning of multi-tracked acoustic guitars and harder electronics. But it's taken us until now to choose the absolutely perfect combination of sweet and savory songs from his extensive, largely publically unreleased output for the enchanting randomly titled 'Amoral Mayor Earwig EP'. So, where did we...

Monotonik has made it to its 200th MP3-based release (and probably somewhere over its 400th overall release, counting sublabels and .MODs), and this milestone comes in the form of Chromatic Flights' second release for the label, 'Heavy Stars Will Fall'. Florida-based Kyle Wyss follows up his 'Memories From The Audible Color Wheel' Monotonik debut with more vaguely psychedelic, beautifully phrased idm, strangely strung out but wonderfully put together. It starts with 'Found Glow', all spaced out...

Dutch artist Izmar has released multiple times on both Monotonik and Mono211 before, gaining a semi-fanatical following for his immensely mellow, immensely beautiful blend of electronics and Fila Brazillia-style nu-chill, and we're delighted to present some of the latest fruits of his labors, in the form of the 'Secular EP'. The whole kit and caboodle starts out with the predictably named 'Opening', which showcases the immensely natural-sounding jam that characterizes this EP - all slowly...

A triumphant Monotonik debut from glitched-up UK resident BitBasic, whose 'Grating Rainbows' EP speeds through 8 tracks in just 18 minutes, and offers a whirlwhind tour to some deliciously cut-up drill & bass action, someone between early Squarepusher, our very own Beak, and somewhere entirely new. Hawesome. Things start out with the loopy, surreal 'Soap', before the lush, hiphop-infused 'Emaze' wanders into view, all lyrical jazz riffs and drilled-up drums, gloriously sunny throughout. And...

Having discovered Japanese techno artist Tatsu from his wonderful early work on his net.label Bumpfoot, we co-opted him to do an exclusive new EP on Monotonik, and the immensely lush 6-track 'August EP' is the result, showcasing the immensely pure, almost Detroit-tinged pastoral electronica - no tricks, no feints, just a trip back to the classics. We start with 'Stillness/Introspective Me', which briefly showcases some gorgeous ambience, before moving straight into 'Sky and Sea/Daytime Dream',...

The second release from Sweden's Bliss , aka Henrik Jose, and this lovingly crafted 3-track EP cements his reputation as creator of some of the lushest, most beautiful electronics around. With his previous net.label releases on Fairlight Music and success at the Assembly demoparty last year, his vocal-blended, multi-layered, live instrument-appropriating angle creates, well, just sublime results, well-deserving of a record deal any time now, we reckon. This EP starts out with 'Transportation Is...

We're delighted to be able to release Finland's idm maestro Planet Boelex's third EP for Monotonik, 'Misplaced', following some enchanting EPs and single releases for netlabels including Ogredung, Aerotone, and Afe Records. Actually, it's arguably the most reflective of the bunch, even including guest vocals and guitar, as Ossi, aka Boelex himself, stretches across ever more expansive, ambient Scandinavian vistas. Following the first Monotonik release from Swedish idm-ish artist Stefan Ternemar, aka ST, in 2003, we waited around a little, and suddenly, another EP popped up. Interestingly, although the first 'Emotions In A Box' release was very much epic electronic, almost Chris Huelsbeck-ian synthwork, everyone evolves, and thanks to guest spots from a fellow Swedish Monotonik artist (check the ID3 tags for a hint), and some new influences, the 'I'll Meet You There EP' keeps the epic melodies, but slides...
